Thoughts on Science and Planned Social Change

A scientific approach to social change is especially valuable and important at the planning stage of a change effort. This is true for at least four reasons:

1. Facts and figures can bolster your case, or build your case against the opposition. Knowing what facts and figures you will be able to work with is helpful in planning a media strategy, or a demonstration.

2. Theories and concepts can provide structure and guidance. Finding the right ideas to use and deciding how to use them could be major challenges however.

3. Data on trends and on current condititions will help you to better target your efforts.
